Competence
Regulation of audiovisual media services and media services of the radio guarantees the protection of freedom of expression and diversity of thinking, respecting generally accepted standards of behavior, non-discrimination, fairness, accuracy and impartiality, ensuring the separation of broadcasters from political control and manipulation, and allowing the development of professional and sustainable audiovisual media service providers and media services of the radio in order to strengthen democratic principles and establish a market economy.
The Agency issues licenses to radio and television stations emitting via terrestrial broadcasting, television broadcasting via other networks, licenses for the distribution of AVM services and media services of the radio, as well as on-demand licenses for media services and licenses for digital terrestrial broadcasting in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The basic principles of program contents of audiovisual media services and media services of the radio are harmonized with the European Union Directive on audiovisual media services (AVMS) and other positive-legal domestic and international documents. In accordance with the relevant legal provisions, the Agency also undertakes measures to prevent the presence of hate speech, ensures the protection of children and minors from harmful content, and promotes media literacy with the aim of raising public awareness about the responsible and safe use of media services. The Agency cooperates with the Central Election Commission of BiH and implements the relevant provisions of the Election Law of BiH, as well as the Media Representation of Political Subjects.
